Jean Atkinson 95, of Gothenburg, Nebraska, died October 20, 2014 at Hilltop Estates, in Gothenburg.
She was born January 9, 1919 in Broken Bow, NE, daughter of Emory and Hazel (Hammond) Cline.
Jean's family moved to the Banner Community near Gothenburg. She married Royal Atkinson on April 10, 1940 at Banner Church; to this union two children were born Peggy and Dee. They moved to the original Atkinson family homestead and shared the home with Royal's grandmother. She was a busy mom and farm wife raising her garden and keeping her yard beautiful. Jean collected music boxes and angels. Jean lived in the Banner Community until moving into Gothenburg.
Jean was a member of the hospital auxiliary, Union aide, Banner United Methodist women, member of the Banner United Methodist Church, county line extension club, and hobby club. Jean was a wonderful cook and took many meals to anyone in need. She loved reading God's word and going to Bible study and church. She enjoyed her Tuesday Morning Bible Study group. Jean just received a new Bible last year because her old one was falling apart, a true testament of a godly woman Jean was. Jean was an active volunteer with the Blood Mobile and the Senior Center.
Surviving are son, Dee (Jo) Atkinson of Gothenburg, NE, daughter, Peggy Aden, grandkids, Kevin (Kim) Atkinson, Brent (Lynnette) Atkinson, Amber Atkinson (Micah Edson), Mike (Marci) Johnson, David Johnson, great-grandsons, Cole Atkinson, Cade Atkinson; a sister-in-law Frida Cline along with extended family and friends.
Jean was preceded in death by her husband, Royal Atkinson; her parents, father-in-law, Vernon Atkinson, mother-in-law, Grace Atkinson, son-in-law, Lyle Aden; her brothers Vance (Evelyn & Muriel) Cline, Bill Cline, Robert (Eunice) Cline; her sister Ruth (Maurice) Anderson.
Visitation will be held at Blase-Strauser Memorial Chapel, Gothenburg, Nebraska; Sunday, November 2, 2014, 2:00 pm - 8:00 pm with the family present from 2-4.
Funeral services will be held at Banner United Methodist Church, Monday, November 3, 2014 at 11:00 am with Rev. Janie Freeman officiating.
Interment will follow in the Peckham Cemetery, Gothenburg, Nebraska.
