James 'Jim' Harlan West, 81, of Gothenburg, passed away on June 11, 2009 at the Gothenburg Memorial Hospital, Gothenburg, NE.
He was born on March 8, 1928 to Willard and Edith (Ehmen) West at Gothenburg, NE. He graduated from Gothenburg High School in 1946. On October 23, 1949 he married Doris Janus in Gothenburg, NE. To this union two children were born: Taun & Taine. Jim and Doris lived in Gothenburg, Nebraska.
Jim served his country in the U.S. Army from 1949-1952, serving in Germany. He was a member of the Presbyterian Church since 1945, Gothenburg Fire Department for 25 years, the American Legion, VFW, and Mason Lodge 32 AF-AM.
Jim served on the Board of Public Works for four years and the Hospital Board for three years. Jim worked for Cornhusker Hardware for 28 years and Farmland CO-OP for 10 years.
James 'Jim' is survived by his son - Taun (Charlene) West of Lexington, NE; daughter - Taine (Shane) Fruit of Ogallala, NE; grandchildren - Jessica West, Destinee (Cory) Steinke, Shayna (Fiancé© Tyler Swaney) Fruit, Tanner Fruit, Tayler Fruit along with many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife Doris, parents Willard & Edith West; six sisters Velma West, Jean West, Gretchen West, Treva West, Arlene West, Carol West.
