James Daniel Holmes, 83, of Gothenburg, Nebraska, died February 18, 2011 in Gothenburg, NE.
He was born January 27, 1928 in Omaha, NE, son of Russell and Goldie (Sigler) Holmes.
He grew up in Gothenburg and graduated from Gothenburg High School. He accepted the Lord in 1951 as his Savior. He served his country in the Navy during WWII. In 1948 he returned from the Service and started working at the Gothenburg Times. He retired from publishing in the 1970’s. He then got his Real Estate License and worked for 10 years as a Realtor.
He married Annabelle Larson on April 19, 1951. To this union 2 sons were born: Jed and Kim.
He was an Eagle Scout. He was a member of the Evangelical Free Church where he served on the church board for many years. He also taught Sunday School and sang in the Choir. He loved to read books especially his Bible which he read thru many times. He was an avid golfer and a Husker fan. He enjoyed spending time with his family.
Surviving are wife, Annabelle Elaine Holmes of Gothenburg, NE; sons, Jed (Susie) Holmes of Wichita, KS; Kim Holmes of Lincoln, NE; grandson, Jordan (Amelia) Holmes, granddaughter, Jamie Holmes, grandson, Jake Holmes, sisters-in-law Bobbie Larson, Jenelle Larson, Katherine Aden, and Barbra (Mervin) Tichen; along with numerous nieces and nephews.
James was preceded in death by his parents, sister, Bertha Tetro, mother and father-in-law Paul & Martha Larson, brothers-in-law, Raymond Larson, Jim Larson, Bernie Larson, Don Aden, sister-in-law, Ellen Larson.
