Irene Viter

Irene Ida Viter, 81, of Gothenburg, NE, died November 4, 2017 surrounded by her family at her home in Gothenburg, NE.

She was born July 11, 1936 in Farnam, NE, daughter of Ed and Margaret (Ostendorf) Schnackenberg.

Irene grew up at Farnam and graduated from Farnam High.  She married Junior "Oop" Viter on  November 5, 1954 at St. John's Lutheran Church in Gothenburg. Irene and Oop had three children: Terry, Allen "Bo", and Vickie. She was a devoted wife and mother and enjoyed spending time with her family.  She sold Avon for many years.

Survivors include two sons, Terry (Connie) Viter of Lincoln, NE, Allen "Bo" (Sherry) Viter of Gothenburg, NE; daughter, Vickie (Doye) Miller of Tryon, NE; 15 grandchildren, 37 great grandchildren; sister, Mary & Laurel Etlicher of Wisconsin; along with many extended family and friends.

Irene was preceded in death by husband, Junior "Oop" Viter, father, Ed Schnackenberg, mother, Margaret Schnackenberg; two brothers, Bill & Della Schnackenberg, Bob & Mary Schnackenberg.

Visitation will be held at Blase-Strauser Memorial Chapel, Gothenburg, Nebraska; Wednesday, November 8, 2017, 1:00 pm - 7:00 pm. with the family present from 4:00-6:00 pm.

Funeral services will be held at American Lutheran Church, Thursday, November 9, 2017 at 1:30 pm with Pastor Jon Mapa officiating.

Burial will follow in the Gothenburg Cemetery, Gothenburg, NE.

Memorials may be given to the family to be decided later.
