Irene Andrist

Irene Erna Andrist, 86, of Gothenburg, Nebraska, formerly of St. Francis, KS, died June 30, 2011 at Hilltop Estates, Gothenburg, NE.

She was born February 23, 1925 in Gackle, ND, daughter of D J and Lydia Wolff Schlittenhardt. In 1928, Irene moved from North Dakota by train, with her father and mother, to a farm which was northwest of St. Francis, KS then known as "The Breaks".

Irene was united in marriage to Harland Andrist. Irene and Harland owned and operated Harland's Grill in St. Francis, KS for over 30 years. Irene was well known for her famous cinnamon rolls and pies she made each day, as well as her chicken fired steak and pan fried chicken. Her love of baking was immense when visiting with friends or business acquaintance’s she always brought some of her baked goods for their enjoyment.

She was a member of the Christian Church and the American Legion Club.

In 2008, Irene moved to Gothenburg, NE to be near her son Bob and his wife Pat.

She is survived by son Bob and wife Pat of Gothenburg; grandson Jai and wife Lisa and family of Gibbon NE; granddaughter Tia of Kearney, NE; son Jerry and wife Pam of San Antonia, TX; grandsons Shane and Family and John and Family; granddaughter Kendall of Hays, KS also her two brothers Danny and family of St. Francis, KS and Al and Family of TX.

Irene was preceded in death by her husband Harland, her parents, and three brothers: Ervin, Bob and Edwin.

Her wish to be cremated was honored and inurnment will be at a later date in the St. Francis Cemetery, St. Francis, KS.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the St. Francis Senior Center or the Christen Church of St Francis, KS.
