Iona Lenz

Iona Faye Lenz, 93, of Moorefield, Nebraska, died August 10, 2021 in Gothenburg, NE.

She was born October 11, 1927 in Moorefield, NE, daughter of Richard and Ruby Mable Earhart.

Iona was married to Paul "Paulie" Lenz for 62 years. Iona was "Mom" to 9 children. She is survived by her children Cheri (Jim Bopp), Dale (Laura), Jeff (Kim), Kevin (Brenda), Leslie (Robin), Katie, Dennis (Tracy), Daughter-n-laws Susie, Nancy, 16 Grandchildren, 24 Great Grandchildren,  2 Great Great Grandchildren, along with numerous extended family and friends. Iona was proceeded in death by her husband of 62 years Paul "Paulie", her sons Kenneth (Susie), Dwight (Nancy), and Son-n-law Terry Huston (Katie).

Along with her being a mom to 9 children, she had a passion for gardening, canning, and raising her chickens. Iona loved to share stories about her time spent with friends while working at Fickencher's Greenhouse in Moorefield. She still found time to pursue her creative side by becoming a prize winning quilter. Iona shared many of her quilted creations with family and friends.

Both her family and local community knew of Iona's outstanding baking and cake decorating skills.  She was called upon often to create cakes for weddings,  birthdays, anniversaries, graduations, and all sorts of special occasions. It was a talent which she loved to share.

Visitation will be held at Blase-Wetzel-Strauser Memorial Chapel, Curtis, Nebraska; Thursday, August 12, 2021, 4:00 pm - 7:00 pm with the family present.

Graveside services will be held at the Moorefield Cemetery, Friday, August 13, 2021 at 11:00 am with Rev. Jeff Cottingham officiating.

Interment will follow in the Moorefield Cemetery, Moorefield, Nebraska.

Memorials may be given to the Curtis Senior Center or Ronald McDonald House.
