Ina Slack
December 16, 1916 — June 17, 2008
Ina Slack, 91, of Gothenburg, died on June 17, 2008, at Gothenburg Memorial Hospital Long-Term.
Ina was born on December 16, 1916 at Grand Island to Barent (Bud) Christian and Elsie Delight (Pierce) Newtson. Ina and her family moved to North Platte in 1918. She attended school at "District 31 Pleasant View" and graduated from North Platte High School in 1937.
Ina married Gerald Floyd Slack on August 28, 1938 at his parent's home south east of Brady. To this union 5 children were born: G. Dean, Ronald, Donna, Eugene, and Gary.
Gerald and Ina lived south of Brady and also Gothenburg. They later moved north of Gothenburg where they made there home until moving in to town. In July 2007, Ina moved to Stone Hearth Estates and lived there until moving to Gothenburg Long Term in February 2008.
Ina was a member of the Banner United Methodist Church for over 50 years; the SSS Club (Sunny Southside Club), and the Co-Burg Extension Club. Ina enjoyed quilting, embroidery work and crocheting.
Ina was preceded in death by her parents, her husband in 1998 and her son Gary in 2001; 2 brothers: Melvin and Russell Newtson; a sister Lucille Grover.
Ina is survived by 3 sons: G. Dean (Pam) of Curtis, NE; Ronnie (Connie) of Callaway, NE; Eugene of Cheyenne, WY; a daughter Donna (John) Hazen of Farnam, NE; 12 grandchildren, 24 great grandchildren, 2 sisters: Vera (LeRoy) Fosbinder of North Platte, NE; and Lorena Millsap of Broken Bow, NE; along with nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held Thursday, June 19 from 9:00 am until 8:00 pm with the family present from 6-8 at Blase-Strauser Memorial Chapel, Gothenburg, Nebraska. Funeral services will be held on Friday, June 20, at 2:30 pm at the Banner United Methodist Church, Gothenburg, Nebraska, with Pastor Janie Freeman officiating.
Burial will take place in the Peckham Cemetery.
Memorials are suggested to Banner United Methodist Church or the Gothenburg Senior Center.
