Geraldine Estella Slack, 90, a resident of the Brady community since 1953, passed away on Thursday, February 15, 2007. She was born at Hastings, NE on December 22, 1916 to Bert and Violet (Rothrock) VanMeter. She moved with her parents to Colorado. At the age of 12, her parents and family moved to Gothenburg, where she attended school.

In 1933 she married Selwyn Slack. She later married the late William Slack, Jr. who preceded her in death on August 20, 1982. She was a member of the American Lutheran Church and a past member of the Spanneth Womené�a��a��s Club. She was a volunteer at the Lincoln County Historical Society in North Platte. Geraldine loved the outdoors and always had a garden and many beautiful flowers.

She is survived by two sons: Larry Slack of Cozad and Bill (Betty) Slack of Brady. Three daughters: Carol Slack, Evonne (Garry) Hicken all of Gothenburg and Beverly (Mike) Troxel of Sutherland. One sister Darlene Gayman of Cozad. Two brothers: Robert VanMeter of Aberdeen, S.D. and Burdette VanMeter of DeSmit, S.D. She had eight grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren. Many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband William, a daughter Mary Ann Slack, three brothers William VanMeter, Victor VanMeter , Gerald VanMeter and one sister Betty VanMeter.

Visitation is Monday, 11:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Blase-Strauser Memorial Chapel.

Funeral Services will be held on Tuesday February 20, 2007, 10:30 a.m. at the American Lutheran Church, Gothenburg, NE, with Pastor Matthew Groenke and Lonna Grabenstein, Parish Ministry Associate, officiating.

Burial will be in the Gothenburg Cemetery.

Memorials are suggested to the American Lutheran Church of Gothenburg (1512 G Avenue-Gothenburg, NE 69138) or the Brady Rescue Unit (POB 31 Brady, NE 69123).
