Gene Kenneth Volkman, 84, of Gothenburg, passed away on April 14, 2009 at the Hilltop Estates, Gothenburg, NE.

He was born on June 22, 1924 to Emeal and Edna (Uhlig) Volkman at Eustis, NE. He attended school at Eustis High.

Gene served his country in the Army from January 1945-December 1946.
Gene worked as a Farmer. On November 23, 1952 he married Betty Wolfe in Lexington, NE. Gene and Betty lived in Gothenburg, NE. He enjoyed woodworking, fishing, and gardening.

He was a life member of the American Legion, and served as a Deacon of the First Presbyterian Church of Hereford, TX.

Gene is survived by his loving spouse of 56 years Betty, daughters - Jeanette Wolf, Darla (LaMonte) Schlake, sons - Kenneth (Beverly) Volkman, David (Kathy) Volkman; 23 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren, and a sister Betty Adkins.

He was preceded in death by granddaughter Kaylee Ann Volkman, father, Emeal Volkman, mother, Edna Volkman, brother Burdette, brother-in-law Willard Adkins, son-in-law Kenneth Wolf, sister-in-law Marylyn Volkman, sister-in-law Jeannie Wolfe, and a nephew Gary Adkins.

Memorials are suggested to the First Presbyterian Church or the Senior Center.
