Floyd Layton Holt, 78, of Gothenburg, Nebraska, died October 13, 2020 at Kearney Regional Medical Center.
He was born January 2, 1942 in Chickasha, OK, son of Reford and Rosa Holt.
Floyd grew up in Alex, OK where he attended and graduated from Alex High School. He married Brenda Gay on June 3, 1961 at Alex Baptist Church in OK and they had two children - Rusty and Shellie. They moved to Gothenburg, Nebraska in 1974 and Floyd worked at Farmland Industries, then later on at Mid States Irrigation. He then became a business owner and operator of Holt Pivot Service and Repair. He was a member of the Nebraska Appaloosa Horse Club and received the Hall of Fame Award in 2019. Floyd enjoyed the NFR, playing poker, and loved to spend time with his family and friends.
He is survived by son, Rusty (Kay) Holt of Lincoln, NE; daughter, Shellie Rossell of Gothenburg, NE; mother-in-law, Ila Faye Gay of Alex,OK; two brothers, Dan (Leta) Holt of Chickasha, OK and Mac (LaFonda) Holt of Oklahoma City, OK; sister-in-law, Linda Ray of Childress, TX; two brothers-in-law, Randy Gay of Alex, OK and Marlon (Janice) Gay of Duncan, OK; two grandsons, Tyson Holt and Jordan Rossell; three granddaughters, Taress (Steven) Meier, Alyssa Holt, Taylor (Chad) Schmeitt; five great grandchildren (Cameron, Collin, Grayli, Brooklyn, Landon); special friend, Jo Johnson; along with many extended family and friends.
Floyd was preceded in death by wife, Brenda Holt; mother, Rosa Holt; father, Reford Holt; brother, Roy Holt; father-in-law, Ueal Gay; sisters-in-law, Mimi Holt and Sherri Gay; nephew, Todd Holt.
Visitation will be held at Blase-Strauser Memorial Chapel, Gothenburg, Nebraska; Monday, October 19, 2020 from 1:00 PM - 6:00 PM
Graveside services will take place on Tuesday, October 20, 2020 at 4:00 PM in the Laflin Creek Cemetery in Alex, OK.
Memorial services will be held on Thursday, October 22, 2020 at 2:00 PM at the Rodeo Grounds in Gothenburg.
Memorials may be given to the Nebraska Appaloosa Horse Club or the Gothenburg Volunteer Fire Department.
