Florence Nelson

Florence Elizabeth Nelson, 90, of Lincoln, formerly of Curtis, Nebraska, died March 20, 2014 at her home in Savanna Pines, Lincoln, NE.

She was born March 10, 1924 in Red Cloud, NE, daughter of Lewis M. and Elizabeth A. (Duval) Hansen.

Florence grew up on the family farm near Red Cloud, NE. She graduated from Red Cloud High School. She lived at Red Cloud until moving to Curtis in 1943. On May 21, 1944 Florence married Ernest T. Nelson, to this union, three children were born - Stanton, Cheryl and Cindy.She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary, 4-H and Girl Scout Leader and Extension Club. She enjoyed sewing quilts for family members and Project Linus. She liked to play cards with friends. She and Ernest wintered in Texas for many years.

Surviving are son, - Stan (Jackie) Nelson of Curtis, NE; daughter - Cheryl (Randy) Jurgens of Lincoln, NE; four grandsons - Rick Nelson, Jason Jurgens, Chad Softley, Craig Softley; two granddaughters - Peggy Fritche, Julie Walther; 12 great grandchildren; sister-in-law - Lia Hansen; along with numerous nieces, nephews and extended family.

Florence was preceded in death by husband, Ernest Nelson; daughter, Cynthia Softley; her parents Lewis and Elizabeth Hansen; three brothers and their wives - Ray & Bonnie Hansen, Don & Winnie Hansen, Lester and Dorothy Hansen; brother Cecil Hansen; sister, Doris & Rex Blackstone, sister-in-law and husband, LaVaughn & Marvin Brand and in-laws Alvah and Rissena Nelson.


Visitation will be held at Blase-Wetzel-Strauser Memorial Chapel, Curtis, Nebraska; Sunday, March 23, 2014 3:00 pm - 7:00 pm with the family present from 3:00-5:00 pm.

Funeral Services will be held at First United Methodist Church, 402 Center, Curtis, NE, Monday, March 24, 2014 at 10:30 am with Rev. Bonnie Forney officiating.

Interment will follow in the Curtis Cemetery, Curtis, Nebraska.

Memorials may be given to the Christian Heritage Home or First United Methodist Church, 402 Center, Curtis, NE 69025.
