Evelyn N Harkness passed away peacefully at her home on September 29, 2011. She had just turned 87.
Evelyn Hardman was born September 4, 1924 in Crawford Nebraska. She graduated from Crawford High School and took a job with relatives in Gothenburg. There she met and married Harold Harkness on January 26th 1943 before he left for the war.
While Harold was in Europe Evelyn worked at the Fitzsimons Army Hospital in Denver.
Upon his return they took over the family farm in Gothenburg until 1982 when they moved into town. She was a 50 year member of the Presbyterian Church and participated in many church clubs and activities.
Evelyn started her career later in life and took LPN courses in North Platte and graduated from North Platte Community College. She then took a job at the Gothenburg Memorial Hospital and worked for several years before retiring.
Harkness was an avid reader and spent a great deal of time at the Gothenburg Library. When she was in her 70's she mastered the computer and kept in touch with family and friends over the internet.
Evelyn was preceded in death by her parents, Boone and Rose Hardman; Ten brothers and sisters, her husband Harold in 2003 and daughter Cheryl in 2009.
She is survived by a daughter, Debra (Virgil) Houseman of Hooper. Two granddaughters, Lisa of Omaha and Linsey of Fremont, and son in law Fred Little of Lincoln, many nieces and nephews and extended family.
