Eugene Whipple, 71 of Brady, Nebraska died peacefully in his sleep on Sunday, April 29, 2007.
He was born December 13, 1935 at Gothenburg, Nebraska to Eugene and Malinda Spooner Whipple.
He grew up in the Sandhills and attended schools in the Merna and Callaway areas. He hired out to the Union Pacific Railroad, July 20, 1954 at Brady and took a medical retirement on October 6, 1989.
He married Lucille Fern Shively at Arnold, Nebraska on June 5, 1955. To this union, they added Robert Dale and Barbara Fern.
He was baptized and confirmed into the American Lutheran Church at Gothenburg in the early 1960s. He was a faithful member and enjoyed attending Sunday School in his retirement years.
Gene was so proud of his children and grandchildren and all their accomplishments. His music was his mainstay all through his life and illnesses. He enjoyed playing and singing for his own enjoyment and was pleased to entertain others with his music and his wit.
He is survived by his wife of 51 years, a daughter, Barbara (Jim) Hotz, Gothenburg; granddaughter, Josee Hotz; grandsons, Wyatt and Ty Hotz: two sisters, Margaret Jersin and Bethel Willis, Gothenburg, many nieces, nephews and a host of other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his son, Robert; parents, and a brother, Karl Whipple.
Viewing will be from 1:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. with the family receiving visitors between 6:30-8:00 p.m. Thursday, May 3, 2007 at Blase- Strauser Memorial Chapel.
Services will be Friday, May 4, 2007 at 2:00 p.m. at the American Lutheran Church in Gothenburg, Nebraska with Rev. Matthew Groenke officiating, assisted by Lonna Grabbenstein, PMA.
Dinner will be served at the Brady Community Hall at 11: 30 a.m.
Interment will be at the Rosehill Cemetery, Callaway, Nebraska at approximately 4:00 p.m.
Memorials are suggested to Brady Fire Dept, Am. Lutheran Church Window Fund or the Kidney Foundation.
