Mitch attended Bunker Hill Elementary School through the eighth grade and graduated from Table Rock High School. He spent the majority of his life in the Table Rock community. In 2002, he and his wife moved to Gothenburg to be closer to family. The family farmed north of Table Rock until 1971 when they sold the farm and moved into town. Emil worked for the FSA Office, Farmers Union Co-Op, Binder Bros., Harlan Findlay and the Village of Table Rock as public works director and maintenance person. Emil also served on the Table Rock School Board of Education, the Bohemian Cemetery Board, and as president of the ZCBJ lodge.
On March 22, 1941, he married Elsie Laun. The couple had two daughters: Mary Ellen and Katherine.
Mitch was well known for his gardening skills. His green thumb kept many people in Table Rock and Gothenburg supplied with fresh vegetables during the growing season. He enjoyed this time spent in the garden and continued to cultivate a large garden until his stroke in 2007. He enjoyed teasing the people around him and sharing his saying of the day whether profound or humorous.
Emil was preceded in death by his wife Elsie, parents Joseph and Anna Michal, and brother Rudolph. He is survived by daughter and son-in-law Mary and Gary Fritch of Gothenburg; daughter, Kathy Michal of Hamilton, Ohio; grandsons John (Trudy) Fritch of Dike, Iowa; Bret (Jeanne) Fritch of Omaha, NE; and Mark (Jaime) Fritch of Papillion, NE ; granddaughters Elizabeth (Chuck) Martin of West Chester, Ohio; and Lori Diehm of Hamilton, Ohio; and eight great-grandchildren.
Memorial service will be held at Wherry Bros. Funeral Home in Pawnee City, NE. on Monday, August 4, 2008 at 2 p.m. Inurnment will be in the Bohemian Cemetery east of Table Rock. Memorials to Bohemian Cemetery in Table Rock.
