Elmer C. Folkers, 79, of Gothenburg, Nebraska, died October 5, 2014 at Great Plains Health in North Platte, NE.
He was born July 23, 1935 in Cozad, NE, son of Heye and Charlotte (Krumstroh) Folkers.
Elmer grew up in the Gothenburg area and graduated from Gothenburg High with the class of 1953. After graduation, he entered the United States Navy and served for four years. On September 16, 1956 he married Norma Dillmon of Gothenburg. After spending a few years in California, they returned to Nebraska where he went to work for Central Nebraska Public Power at the Canaday Steam Plant in Lexington. He retired in 1999 after over 40 years of service. They then moved to Gothenburg, where they resided until his death.
Surviving are wife, Norma Folkers of Gothenburg, NE, three sons, Mitch (Mary Ann) Folkers of Omaha, NE, Perry (Bonnie) Folkers of Lexington, NE, Jon (Elizabeth) Folkers of Omaha, NE; eight grandchildren, and four great grandchildren; sister, Ilene McCoy of Grand Island, NE; along with nieces, nephews and extended family and friends.
Elmer was preceded in death by his parents Heye and Charlotte; brother, Raymond (Darlene) Folkers, brother, Arnold Folkers; in-laws, Howard (Hazel) Dillmon; sister-in-law, Marilyn Lyne.
Services will be held at Blase-Strauser Memorial Chapel, Thursday, October 9, 2014 at 11:00 am with Pastor Jon Mapa officiating.
Interment will follow in the Fort McPherson National Cemetery, Maxwell, Nebraska.
