Ellie Cleveland

October 4, 1981 — April 3, 2022

Ellie (Edson) Cleveland, 40, of Sergeant Bluff, IA, died April 3, 2022 at St. Luke's Hospital in Sioux City, IA.

Ellie Rose was born Oct 4, 1981 in Cozad, NE, the first of two girls born into the home of Dwight and Claire (Timm) Edson.

Ellie was a spunky, unafraid child with a knack for getting into trouble, this made her one of the ring-leaders of neighborhood kids. It was an ideal childhood filled with bike rides to the pool or Schriver’s Market, playing outside all day and being home by dark. In her younger years, she was busy with dance, baton, and story hour. Ellie was active in many activities-she often made the comment that she was grateful to have grown up before electronics took over childhoods. As she got older, she was very competitive and was involved in 4H, FFA, speech, Odyssey of the Mind and sports-swimming, softball and basketball.  She loved music, she played the piano, trumpet and sang in the choir. She was a devoted “daddy’s girl” and loved to go to the stock car races, spending time in the pits and this started her love of old cars.

Ellie was baptized and confirmed at the United Methodist Church where she also participated in youth group. Ellie started working as a babysitter and she loved the kids. She worked at detasseling and at restaurants, earning money for her first car. Ellie graduated from Gothenburg High with the class of 2000. She then attended UNK for a year and a half before she decided that she liked working better than going to school. She had a good work ethic and was always working-restaurants, retail, and CNA. Later she graduated from Mid-Plains Community College with her LPN. Ellie loved people and the choice of nursing fulfilled her role as a caregiver and she loved spending time with her patients.

Ellie enjoyed the family vacations through the years, making many memories with her parents and sister. They tried many new adventures together and shared lots of laughs. Ellie met Greg Cleveland, the love of her life in 2015 and they married in a fairytale wedding on October 21, 2017.  Greg’s two girls made their family complete with the addition of her devoted dog Sami and they made their home in Sergeant Bluff, IA.

Ellie was preceded in death by her grandparents-Clarence and Marjorie Timm and Pauline Edson.

She is survived by her husband Greg and his daughters Bailea and Callie; her parents Dwight and Claire Edson, sister Megan (Derek) Niklasen; grandfather Richard Edson; her in-laws John and Gail Cleveland, sister-in-law Sarah (Josh) Benton and their son Bryson,  along with many aunts, uncles, cousins and extended family and friends.
