Elenita Anderson, 81 of Curtis died on April 24, 2008 at Hillside Estates in Curtis, after a brief battle with cancer.
Elenita was born on December 24, 1926 to Benjamin and Ellen Mae (Jensen) Russell at the Fox Creek Pioneer Farm North of Curtis, NE. She grew up at Curtis on the Fox Creek Farm and attended school in Curtis. She graduated from UNSTA in Curtis in 1944.
On January 15, 1949 Elenita married Robert Erwin Anderson at the United Methodist Church in Curtis. To this union two sons were born: Rodney Dean and Wayne Kent. Elenita worked for United States Postal Service in Moorefield were she was Postmaster for 35 years, retiring only four years ago.
Elenita was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary, Neighborly Bells and St. John's Lutheran Church. She was also active in the Curtis Easter Pageant and the Historical Society. Elenita was very generous in giving to numerous organizations.
Elenita is survived by her Sons Rodney Anderson of Curtis, NE and Wayne (Debrah) Anderson of Sheridan, WY; Grandchildren Casey (Stacey) Anderson, Erin (Jerrod) Pascoe all of Curtis, NE; Randi (Michael) Houghtelling of Cambridge, NE; Shannon (Brad) Strobl of Wood River, NE; Dalynn (Travis) Patch of Hershey, NE; Kodi Anderson of Beatrice, NE; Kelcey Anderson of Belgrade, NE; step-granddaughters Stacia and Molly Jackson of Sheridan, WY; Great Grandchildren Justin and Bailey Anderson, Acelyn Klein, Sienna Houghtelling and Krystyn Patch; Sisters Fern (Deac) Wills of Curtis, NE; Anna May Gorley of Mt. Airy, NC; Sisters-in-law Darlene Russell and Elane Fischer both of Curtis, NE; Brothers Thomas Russell of Kearney, NE; Raymond (Donna) Russell of Lone Tree, CO; Brothers-in-law Jim McGinnis of Omaha, NE; Alan (Barb) Anderson of McCook, NE; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Robert in 1985, Sisters June McGinnis, sister-in-law Lela and Virgina Russell, Brothers Robert and Benjamin Russell and brothers-in-law Dick Gourley, Gaylord Anderson and Dick Fischer.
Visitation will be held Sunday, April 27 from 2:00 pm until 7:00 pm with family present from 2-2:30 at Blase-Wetzel-Strauser Memorial Chapel, Curtis, Nebraska.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 am, Monday, April 28, 2008 St. John's Lutheran Church Curtis, Nebraska with Pastor Paul Warneke officiating.
Burial will take place in the Curtis Cemetery.
Memorials are suggested to the Hillside Estates, Callahan Cancer Center, St. John's Lutheran Church or the American Legion.
