Biography

Eldon "Al" Smith, 83, passed away at his home in Maywood, NE on May 17, 2007. Al was born August 27, 1923 in Webb, IA to Herman and Blanche (Brooks) Smith. He was a WWII Navy Veteran. He was a member of the Teamsters and the local American Legion Post. He was a truck driver for most of his adult life. Survivors include his wife, Donna, of Maywood. Sons, Eldon (Kim) Smith of Evans, CO and George Smith of Lincoln. Daughter, Jana Smith of Lincoln. Stepchildren, Janice (Daryl) McCaslin of North Platte, Dianne (Jake) Davis of Lincoln, Cheryl (Steve) Christianson of Indian Wells, CA, Nancy (Kyle) Motes of Longview, TX, Russ Wilson of Lincoln, Rex (Kim) Wilson of Twin Peaks, CA and Annette (Brett) Wood of Maywood. 24 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren. One brother Boyd of Vincennes, IN and 2 sisters Bernice (Bernard) Berry of Vincennes, IN and Gerry (Don) Pinon of Westminster, CO. He was preceded in death by his parents, sons Mike and Soney, 2 brothers George and Ike and sister Lucy. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be sent to the Maywood Christian Church or the Maywood Community Hall. The body was cremated and a Memorial service will be at 10:30 am on Wednesday, May 23, 2007 at the Maywood Christian Church with Dale Heimer officiating. A luncheon will follow at the Maywood Community Hall. Burial with military honors will then be held at 2:30 pm at Fort McPherson National Cemetery near Maxwell ,NE. Those wishing to sign the guest book may do so at Blase-Wetzel-Strauser Memorial Chapel, in Curtis, Tuesday, May 22,2007 from 9 to 5. Blase-Wetzel-Strauser Memorial Chapel of Curtis is in charge of arrangements.
