Elaine Ruth Schlake, 89, of Gothenburg, Nebraska, died December 20, 2017 in Gothenburg, NE.

She was born July 9, 1928 at Jansen, NE, daughter of Ernest and Frieda (Sandman) Schmidt. She attended schools in Jefferson County and graduated from Plymouth High School in 1944.
Elaine taught in Rural schools for 3 years. Elaine married John Schlake on October 3, 1948 making their home in Beatrice, to this union two sons, LaMonte and Leslie were born. In 1958, the family moved to Gothenburg where they have resided since.

Elaine was a member of member of the ALCW, American Legion Womens Auxillary, bridge club, and dance clubs. Elaine enjoyed traveling the world with her husband John, watching the flowers bloom throughout the spring and summer, bowling, and enjoyed spending holidays with family.

Surviving are son, LaMonte (Darla) Schlake of Gothenburg, NE, Grandson, Trent (Misty) Schlake of Gothenburg and their children Bryn and Austin, Granddaughter Keri (Corey) Roth of Gothenburg and their children Kya and Cooper, Grandson, Jeff Schlake (Marg) of Lincoln, NE and their child Jack, Granddaughter Erin Schlake and child Walker; Granddaughter Lesley Ann Roberts of Lincoln and children Sawyer, Maisy, Kiernan, and Silas, Sister, Vernel Hueske of Plymouth, NE, Sister-in-lawVirgene Schmidt of Jansen, NE.

Elaine was preceded in death by her parents, husband, John Schlake, son, Leslie Schlake, seven sisters and two brothers.

Visitation will be held at American Lutheran Church, Gothenburg, Nebraska; Tuesday, December 26, 2017, 12:00 pm - 2:00 pm.

Services will be held at American Lutheran Church, December 26, 2017 at 2:00 pm with Rev. Jon Mapa officiating.

Interment will follow in the Fort McPherson National Cemetery, Maxwell, NE

Memorials may be designated to the American Lutheran Church, or the Alzheimer's Association.
