Eileen R. Janssen, 82, of Gothenburg, passed away on July 1, 2009 at the Good Samaritan Hospital in Kearney, NE.
She was born on April 27, 1927 to G.F. and Emma (Gruber) Gengenbach in Eustis, NE.
She attended and graduated from Eustis High School and Kearney State Teachers College. She was a Rural Dawson County School teacher for five years.
On June 5, 1949 she married Wayne Janssen at St. John's Lutheran Church, Eustis, NE. To this union four sons were born: Gregory, Gaylan and twins Kurt and Kent.
Eileen and Wayne lived and raised their family on a farm northeast of Gothenburg after which they moved to town in 1988. Eileen assisted in the operation of the family farm for her entire life.
She was a member of the American Lutheran Church where she taught Sunday school, played in the Adult Bell Choir and directed the Youth Bell Choir for many years. Eileen was a member of the Women of the Church, American Lutheran Quilters and various card clubs. She also enjoyed cooking and sewing.
Eileen is survived by her loving spouse of 60 years, Wayne, sons Gregory (Barbara) Janssen of Minneapolis, MN; Gaylan Janssen of Gothenburg; Kurt Janssen of Washington, DC; brother - Floyd (Bernice) Gengenbach Eustis, two grandchildren: Sarah (Rick) Lurk and Matthew (Kate Berry) Janssen and three great-grandchildren: Ashley, Jeremy and Jordan Janssen.
She was preceded in death by her parents, infant son Kent, brother Walter Gengenbach, and grandson John Janssen.
