Edward Stevens

Edward Peter Stevens, 91, of Gothenburg, NE, died August 21, 2012 at his home north of Gothenburg, NE, surrounded by his family.

Edward was born December 19, 1920 to Peter E. and Mary A. Fickenscher Stevens at Gothenburg, NE. He attended schools in Gothenburg, served his country in World War II in the Pacific Theatre as a member of the 810th military police company in Hawaii for three years. Following his discharge from the army, he became a farmer-rancher in the Gothenburg area.

On May 26, 1946 he married Luella E. Teel of Farnam. They made their home northeast of Gothenburg for 65 years. Edward was an active member of Christ Lutheran Church and American Lutheran Church, serving on church council and the building committee when the churches merged. He was also a school board member when District 100-R was formed.

Ed was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He is survived by his two sons, Kenneth(Barbara) of Brady, Ronald (Connie Jo) of Gothenburg, and his two daughters, Kathleen (Terry) Williams of McCook and Jacqueline Tomrdle of Colorado Springs, CO, a brother, Orvin (Shirley) Stevens and brother-in-law Paul Johnson all of Gothenburg. He is also survived by four grandsons, eight granddaughters, 15 great-grandsons, 10 great-granddaughters and many beloved nephews and nieces.

He is preceded by his wife Luella, his parents, brothers Albert and Richard Stevens, sisters Rosina Franzen, Marie Ellison, Tillie Johnson and Katherine Vieselmeyer, a son-in-law Bruce Tomrdle and a great-grandson Mickale Rosner.

After a visit with Ed, if you didn't leave the farm laughing from hearing his stories, you weren't listening.




Visitation will be held at Blase-Strauser Memorial Chapel, Gothenburg, Nebraska; Friday, August 24, 2012 2:00 pm - 8:00 pm.

Services will be held at American Lutheran Church, August 25, 2012 at 11:00 am with Pastor Tom Wilson and Lonna Grabenstein PMA, officiating.

Interment will follow in the Gothenburg Cemetery, Gothenburg, Nebraska.
