Edna Towne

Edna Ione (Davis) [Christensen] Towne went home to her Lord on 13 June 2008, at the age of 91, at North Platte, NE.

Edna was born January 29, 1917 near White, Hayes County, NE to Elmer and Martha (Hoschouer) Davis. She was the fourth of nine children and the last survivor of them.

She married Rudolph H. Christensen on June 16, 1934 at Oberlin, KS. She and Rudy had 5 children: Roberta Christensen, Betty Goldstein, JoAnn (Alan) Sortore, Rudolph J., and Phyllis Christensen. Rudy's untimely death on Sept. 19, 1959 ended this union after 25 years.

After Rudy's death Edna worked for Farmers State Bank in Maywood for several years before joyfully marrying Virgil L. Towne of Curtis on February 23, 1967 at Burlington, CO. Edna and Virgil were happily married for over 41 years.

Edna was a long-time member of the Maywood Christian Church.

She was preceded in death by her parents, all of her siblings and daughters Betty and Phyllis.

She is survived by her daughters Roberta and JoAnn, both of Denver, CO, son Jim of San Diego, CA, and 8 grandchildren (Roberta's children: Michael Miller of Denver, Jerry Miller of Tucson, AZ and David Miller of Grand Junction, CO; Betty's children: Soren Goldstein, Donna Fife and Ilana Lutz all of Sunnyvale, CA; JoAnn's children: Craig Harwick of Sterling, CO and Kristen Poland of New Castle, CO) and 10 great-grandchildren.

Services will be held 10:30 am, Tues, June 17, 2008 at Maywood Christian Church with Dale Heimer officiating.

Interment will follow at the Maywood Cemetery.

Viewing will be held on Mon, June 16 from 1:00 pm until 8:00 pm at Blase-Wetzel-Strauser Memorial Chapel.
