Edith "Dede" Diehl

Edith (DeDe) Helen Diehl, 87, of Gothenburg, Nebraska, died October 24, 2019 at Meadowlark Point in Cozad,NE.

DeDe was born August 6, 1932 in Gothenburg, NE, daughter of James W. and Helen Grace (Fiddock) Sherman.

She grew up in Gothenburg and attended school through 6th grade until her family moved to Brady, NE in 1944.  She graduated from Brady High in 1950.  DeDe lived in Brady until moving to Texas for a year and a half.  After leaving Texas they moved to Gothenburg for a short time before moving to North Platte and then back to Brady.

DeDe enjoyed her church families - Methodist and Community Church in Brady and the Evangelical  Free Church in Gothenburg. She enjoyed knitting and making crafts.  DeDe was a great cook and enjoyed cooking and baking goods for her family and friends.  She was also very active in the American Legion auxiliary most of her life and veterans causes were very dear to her.  DeDe was active in volunteer work for the American Heart Association when she lived in North Platte.

DeDe is survived by two sons Kenny (Lisa) Diehl of Omaha and Scott (Pam) Diehl of Holly Hill, FL; 12 Grandchildren, 22 great grandchildren, sisters Margaret Rubenthaler of Gothenburg, NE and Mimi Dodge of Apple Valley, CA; brother Don Sherman of Sterling, CO and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband Willard H. Diehl, Jr., her parents, two daughters Kathy Bockus and Dee Bartlett, grandsons Doug, Justin and John Bockus and granddaughter Melissa Diehl; her sister Marjorie Lindekugel.

Memorial Service will be held at Evangelical Free Church, November 1, 2019 at 10:00 am with Pastor Scott Newman officiating.

Interment will follow in the Fort McPherson National Cemetery, Maxwell, Nebraska.
