Edith M. Tatum-Heagney, 86, of Curtis, NE passed away on June 16, 2007 at Sunset Haven Nursing Home in Curtis. Edith Mae Raney was born on May 28, 1921 to Eli and Emma A. (Parker) Raney at Wallace, Nebraska. She grew up and attended school in Wallace. On October 12, 1938, Edith married Bert V. Tatum at Julesburg, Colorado. To this union five children were born: Alice, Marion, Joyce, David and Gladys. Edith served as School District Treasurer and worked at the Goodall plant in Sutherland, Nebraska making condensers for the war effort. Edith and Bert moved their family to Curtis from Sarben, Nebraska in August 1956 after Bert's appointment as Relief Foreman for the Union Pacific Railroad. Following her husbands death on February 15, 1958 she went to work as a waitress at the Aggie Inn and later as a store clerk at Skogmos and then O'Connor's Dime Store. On November 17, 1967 Edith married Leo Heagney at Curtis, NE. Leo passed away on October 25, 1995. Edith enjoyed gardening, sewing, crocheting, cooking and square dancing. She was a Girl Scout leader, a M.y.F sponsor, and a "clown" leader for the Halloween Parade. Her most important thing of all was her family. She enjoyed spending as much time as she could with her family & grandchildren. Edith is survived by her loving children Marion (Karen) Tatum of Gothenburg, NE; Joyce (Dallas) Petersen of Curtis, NE; David Tatum of Detroit, MI; and Gladys (Mike) Krikac of Hastings, NE; 13 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by 2 infant sisters, her parents, her husbands Bert Tatum and Leo Heagney, a daughter Alice Walker and a daughter-in-law Sue Tatum. Visitation will be held from 9:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. Monday, June 18 and from 9:00 a.m. -- 9:00 p.m. Tuesday, June 19 at Blase-Wetzel-Strauser Memorial Chapel in Curtis, NE Funeral Services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, June 20, 2007 at the First United Methodist Church in Curtis with Rev. Kevin Burkhardt officiating. Burial will take place in the Morning View Cemetery in Wallace, NE.
