Biography

Edith Fern Bodfield, 76, of Gothenburg passed away on February 15, 2009 at Gothenburg Memorial Hospital.

Edith was born on July 22, 1932 at Gothenburg, NE to Walter E. and Hilma (Monson) Larson. She grew up and attended schools at Gothenburg.

Edith lived in Fort Morgan, CO from 1956 to 1959; she also lived in Erie, CO from 1965- to 1969. Edith married Richard D. Bodfield in 1969 at Lexington, NE.

She retired from Monroe's in 1995 after working there for 20 years. Edith loved to crochet, read, bake, and work crossword puzzles.

Edith had a hard life, raising 6 children as a single mother, in a time when being a single mother was looked down upon by society. She always made sure that there was a lot of love and happiness. She worked 2-3 jobs in order to support her children. She didn't have much but she took pride in what she worked so hard to get. She loved to laugh and sing, singing while cleaning house and doing the dishes. She loved to play cards, giggling if she beat the pants off ya.

Edith would circle the block until she could find a parking space right in front of the door. When she would get ready for work and go to put on her shoes, she would be cussing because the cat pooped in her shoes.

Linda just about got a frying pan over the head when she snuck up behind Mom and scared her while she was doing dishes. Linda brought home a couple of kangaroo mice and hid them in the closet thinking no way Mom would let her keep them. When Mom discovered them she just fell in love with those little mice. We had them for years.

When Mom was at work we'd fill up the bathtub and over flow the water onto the floor into the kitchen and slide on our bare butts through the kitchen. She never had any wax paper cause we always took it and used it to slide down the hill side in the snow. It was only good for one use, then we had to get some more. Also when she was at work we would take all the mattresses off the bed and pile them up in front of the table and jump from the table to the mattresses. Every Christmas we used to unwrap our presents and play with them then wrap them back up before Mom got home.

Through good times and bad she loved us all. I guess we all turned out O.K.

We Love You Mom! Jim, Linda, Janice, Dianne, Mary, Kathy and Beth.
