Edgar Boden

Edgar Ellert Boden, 84, of Brady, Nebraska, passed away on September 5, 2015 at Stone Hearth Estates in Gothenburg, NE.

Edgar was born August 29, 1931 to Henry Gade Boden and Anna Marie Franzen Boden in Gothenburg, NE.  He was baptized and confirmed at Zion Lutheran Church north of Gothenburg, NE.  Edgar attended grade school at Peru, Auburn and rural Gothenburg and graduated from Gothenburg High School class of 1949.  He was a member of a Custer County 4-H Livestock club and participated in FFA in high school.  Summers were spent helping raise livestock and farming.

After graduation, he worked part time in the summer months at local alfalfa mills.  He then worked for the Gothenburg Sinclair Station and drove their fuel delivery truck.

The summer of 1952, he ventured to Brady with a friend and met the Methodist minister’s daughter, Lellus Neth.  They were married Oct. 25, 1953 at the Methodist Church in Clarks, NE.  They settled in Gothenburg where Edgar helped his Dad farm and ranch and he also continued working at the Sinclair station.  They moved north of Gothenburg and eventually to Wild Horse Valley north of Brady where they made their home for 56 years.  He moved to Stone Hearth Estates in Gothenburg in October of 2014 after his wife of 60 years passed away on September 24, 2014.  Their marriage was blessed with three sons  - Walter Henry, Edgar Gregory and Charles Wayne.

Edgar served on the church council, school board, Lincoln County 4-H Council and was a Golden Harvest Seed dealer.  He had a deep faith, which he expressed in his daily devotions.  Edgar loved his family dearly and treasured his time on the farm.  He loved tinkering with various projects in his shop, fixing up old vehicles and his passion - working/riding his horses.

He is survived by his Sons; Walter and wife Sue of Kearney, NE; Gregg of Lincoln, NE and Charles and wife Beth of Brady, NE; five grandchildren, Jennifer (Mike) Owens of Denver, CO; Angela (Ulrich) Dossou of Denver, CO; Ryan, Kristen and Hannah Boden of Brady, NE; six great-grand-children - Jacey, Sobastian, Suzie and Layla Owens; Grace Machamire and Noah Dossou; and a step-great-grandson, Thomas Owens; one sister, Elladine Berryman of Cozad; brothers and sisters in-law; Marjorie McReynolds of Pullman, WA; Conley and Elsie Hinrichs of Lincoln, NE; Charles and Beverly Neth of Waverly; and John and Beverly Neth of Norfolk; numerous nieces and nephews and dear friends.

He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Lellus; his parents, Henry and Marie Boden; granddaughter, Jessica Boden; brothers-in-law, Don Berryman, Bill McReynolds and Curly Washecheck; and sister-in-law, Lucille Washecheck.

Visitation will be held at Blase-Strauser Memorial Chapel, Gothenburg, Nebraska; Wednesday, September 9, 2015, 1:00 pm - 8:00 pm with the family present from 5:00-7:00 pm.

Services will be held at Zion Lutheran Church, Thursday, September 10, 2015 at 2:00 pm with Pastor Carol Mapa and Rev. Janie Freeman officiating.

Interment will follow in the Zion Lutheran Cemetery, Gothenburg, Nebraska.

Memorials may be given to the Brady United Methodist Church or Zion Lutheran Church.
