E. Eileen Furrow, 93, of Curtis, Nebraska, died October 12, 2016, at Great Plains Health in North Platte, Nebraska. She was born on August 14, 1923, to Vance V. and Fern Porter Farrar on a farm northwest of Maywood, Nebraska. She grew up on the farm and attended school in Maywood until her junior year, then finished her last two years in Curtis, Nebraska, taking normal training. She graduated from the Nebraska School of Agriculture in 1940 and taught country school for four years. She later worked at the Orthopedic Hospital in Lincoln and was bookkeeper for the first concrete elevators built in Maywood.
On February 24, 1946, she married Robert G. Furrow in Maywood. To this union were born three sons: Michael, Steven, and Scott. She was an active member of the Maywood and Curtis Methodist Churches, United Methodist Women, and P.E.O. She worked as a library aide in the Maywood Public Schools and loved working with kids. She was an avid golfer and crossword puzzle fan, loved playing bridge, was a Den Mother for Cub Scouts, and followed all sports and academic events in which her boys participated. She was an avid reader and sang in the church choir and Curtis Easter Pageant choir for many years. Eileen was a loving and caring wife, mother, grandma, aunt, and friend. Her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren were her pride and joy. She and Bob traveled extensively and visited all 50 states. They recently celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary.
She was a past member of the Royal Neighbor Lodge in Maywood for many years and the Eastern Star in McCook.
Surviving her are husband, Robert, three sons: Michael (Jan) of Lincoln, Nebraska, Steven (Cynthia) of Forsyth, Illinois, and Scott (Susan) of Wellfleet, Nebraska; five grandchildren: Leigh Ann Furrow Boyer (Tim), Brent Furrow, Shannon Furrow Glinski (Les), Chad Furrow (Courtney), and Josh Boyles; four great grandchildren: Michael Boyer, and Heidi, Cassiday, and Myra Glinski; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, brothers Lynn, Dale, and Blaine, sister Veryl Tuttle, and grandson Christopher Furrow.
A memorial service will be held at the United Methodist Church in Curtis at 10:30 am on October 15, 2016, with Pastor Emmanuel Afful officiating. Burial will follow in the Maywood Cemetery.
