Dylores (Dee) May Jackson passed away peacefully on May 18, 2011 at the age of 87 in Grand Island, Nebraska. She was born on a farm north of Cozad, NE on February 11, 1924 to Edwin Nathaniel and Lorena Lillian (Shaulis) Berg. She was raised on this farm with her older brother and sister, Rowland Emanuel and Mildred Edna. Many stories were told about the fun Dee and her cousins had on the hills of Nebraska.
Dee received her education at a one room country school in Dawson County through the first 8 grades. After graduating from the eighth grade she moved to Powell, WY to live with her sister, Mildred Kittle, to help with the children and household chores. She attended Powell High School where she was a member of the Glee Club and the A Capell Choir. During the summers she would return to Nebraska to be with her parents. She graduated in May 1941. After graduation, she attended Great Falls Commercial College in Great Falls, Montana. While in college, she lived in the Presbyterian Minister's home, working for her room and board. She graduated in June of 1942.
Dee then returned to Nebraska and went to work for the County AAA office in Lexington, NE. On January 1, 1943, she accepted a job with the Federal Government's Farmers Home Administration (FHA) office in Western Nebraska and traveled to area offices until 1945. After World War II ended, her job was discontinued. She moved back to Gothenburg and worked in the Greene Agency for the next seven years; 1945-1952. Her next adventure was joining with two other ladies in owning and operating a Ladies and Childrens Dress shop, 1952-1958.
On May 4, 1958 she married Uland (Bud) C. Jackson and they moved to Denver, Co. She was employed as office manager in oil-related industries until her retirement in 1984. The Jacksons continued to live in Denver until 1994 when they moved to a home in Sun City, AZ. Bud and Dee enjoyed playing cards, visiting, and Willowbrooke Church activities.
At their home, Dee enjoyed watching the quail and rabbits, planting flowers, and working crosswords. She was a member of the Eastern Star and the Lion's Club of Sun City, AZ.
They traveled with church group tours and to Bud's 32nd Armored Regiment reunions across the United States.
In November, 2009 Bud and Dee returned to Nebraska to reside in an independent living apartment in Grand Island. Dee had several health issues after the move which she handled courageously with her special humor. Dee was preceded in death by her parents, brother, sister and a nephew. She is survived by her husband of 53 years, and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
She will always be remembered as a cheerful, compassionate, and loving woman ready with a helping hand whenever needed. She was proud of her Swedish heritage, and gracious hostess, meticulous homemaker. Dee touched the lives of many family members and friends. She will forever be in our hearts and greatly missed.
