Biography

Duane Henry Malm, 81, of Maxwell, Nebraska, died June 14, 2012 at Great Plains Regional Medical Center in North Platte, NE.

He was born March 21, 1931 in Gothenburg, NE, son of John Henry and Lola Mae Malm. He grew up on a farm north of Gothenburg and attended school at Shostrom Elementary and Swedish Grove Elementary school north of town. He graduated from Gothenburg High with the class of 1950. After graduation, he joined the US Air Force, during that time he was stationed in Arizona and Texas.(1950-1954)

After his discharge he returned home and worked for farmers in the Darr and North Platte area. On August 4,1961 he married Hildur Pearson at Svea Dal. To this union three children were born: Leonard, Viola and Linda. He continued to farm and later owned and operated a dairy for a few years. He also worked for Monroe Tenneco Automotive in Cozad beginning in 1977. He worked for Monroe for 21 years until he retired in 1999. He lived south of Maxwell on the family farm until 1990 when the family moved into the village of Maxwell. They attended First Baptist Church, Maxwell, Nebraska for 48 years. Duane liked walking, loved laughing, fixing things, spending time with family, and going for drives with the family.

Survivors include his wife Hildur Malm of Maxwell, NE; two daughters - Viola (Ed) McCown of Maxwell, NE; Linda (James) Blaszkowski of Westminster, CO; four grandsons - David McCown, Malachi Blaszkowski, Caleb Blaszkowski, Titus Blaszkowski; two granddaughters - Emma McCown, Elizabeth McCown; a sister - Marjorie (Willard) Kuhlman of Gothenburg, NE; a brother-in-law - Willard (Carolyn) Pearson of Brady, NE; along with extended family and friends.

Duane was preceded in death by father, John Henry Malm, mother, Lola Mae Malm, step-mother Lottie Malm and son Leonard Duane Malm.
