Duane Glenn Peterson, 88, of Gothenburg, Nebraska, died July 1, 2016 at Hilltop Estates in Gothenburg, NE.
He was born June 25, 1928 on his grandfathers farmstead in Custer county son of Harry Ernest Peterson and Mabel Concordia Peterson.
Duane grew up on the family farm north of Gothenburg in the New Hope Community. He attended elementary school at New Hope school and Gothenburg High School graduating in 1946. As a young man Duane excepted Jesus Christ as his personal Lord and Savior and was a lifelong attendee of New Hope Evangelical Free Church.
Duane married Lavonne Peterson on September 2, 1951 at the Free Mission Church in Gothenburg, to this union five children were born - Dan, Susan, Mick, Brenda and Steve.
Duane was a life long farmer and rancher and enjoyed attending livestock sales and his children's and grandchildren's sporting events.
Survivors include his loving wife Lavonne of Gothenburg, three sons, Dan (Rhonda) Peterson of Gothenburg , Mick (Corriene) Peterson of Gothenburg, Steve Peterson of Seward, daughter, Susan (Glenn) Ashcraft of Malaga, Spain, 13 grandchildren: Derek, Casey, Megan, Andrew, Christopher, Amber, Kayla, Hannah, Pete, Jake, Madison, Tristan, and Ella, Nine great grandchildren, sister JoAnn (Boyd) Phillippi of Cozad; sisters-in-law Janey Peterson of Lincoln and Margilu Peterson of Cozad; and many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
Duane was preceded in death by his parents, daughter, Brenda Gilg, grandson, Matthew Peterson, brothers, Don and Gene Peterson, and infant sister, Barbara Kay Peterson.
Visitation will be held at Blase-Strauser Memorial Chapel, Gothenburg, Nebraska; Tuesday, July 5, 2016, 1:00 pm - 8:00 pm with the family present from 5:00 pm -7:00 pm.
Services will be held at Evangelical Free Church,Wednesday, July 6, 2016 at 10:00 am with Pastor Robert Litzenberger officiating.
Interment will follow in the New Hope Cemetery, Gothenburg, Nebraska.
