Dorothy Gerdes

Dorothy E. Gerdes 89, of Gothenburg died on March 2, 2009 at Gothenburg Memorial Hospital.

Dorothy was born on December 16, 1919 to John and Mary (Fishburn) Trimble at Gothenburg, NE. Dorothy was baptized on the April 9, 1939 at the First Presbyterian Church in Gothenburg, NE. She grew up at Gothenburg and graduated from Gothenburg High School in 1940.

Dorothy married Walter LaVerne Gerdes on November 23, 1940 at Lexington. To this union 2 children were born: LaVerne and Mary Lou.

Dorothy lived at Gothenburg and Maxwell and spent 2 years in California. She cleaned homes and offices including the Gothenburg State Bank.

Dorothy became a member of the American Lutheran Church on June 11, 1944. She was also a member of the VFW Auxiliary. She enjoyed horseshoes, cards, and bingo. She loved people and spending time with her children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great great grandchildren.

Survivors include her son LaVerne (Lorraine) Gerdes of Lincoln, NE; daughter Mary Lou (Garry) Dishman of Gothenburg; sister LaVonne Gerdes of Gothenburg; seven grandchildren; Ronald (Carmella) Dishman, Deanna (Steve) Lange, Karen (Todd) Wuehler, Nancy (Curt) DeVore, Kim (Kevin) Watson, Jeff (Valerie) Gerdes, and LaRae (David) Lavalleur, 19 great grandchildren, and eight great great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband Walter in 1985, her parents, and several brothers and sisters.
