Doris May Peterson, 96, of Curtis, Nebraska died May 17, 2013 at Senior Choices in Curtis.

She was born on May 25, 1916 in Frontier County, Nebraska daughter of Joseph Edward and Alice Ward Burton. Doris grew up in Frontier County and graduated the 8th grade from North Star country school. Most of her life she lived south of Curtis on the Farm her parents bought after they moved here from England. Clarence and Doris farmed, milked cows, and raised a big garden. Doris was most at home in her garden that was filled with vegetables, fruit trees and lots of flowers. There was always something good to eat at her house. She loved to share her wonderful food with family and friends and visit with you also. Her most happy times were when her house was full and her family was enjoying their feast she had prepared.
In later years she made many quilts and shared them with her family. While her family was growing she was as Sunday school teacher for the preschool age and active as a 4-H leader. She belonged to the Triple L Extension Club for many years and has been a longtime member of the United Methodist Church. After her family was nearly grown she worked as a cook at UNSTA.
