Donna Slack

Donna (Shelley) Slack was born May 6, 1932 to James David and Allie Mae (Alkire) Shelley in Gothenburg Nebraska.

Donna attended Gothenburg Public Schools and lived her whole life in Gothenburg.

She worked for Nebraska Salt and Grain as Safety Director for over 25 years. She retired in 2005.

Donna had a full life with many hobbies and interests. She and Denny loved to camp, travel and ride their Harley motorcycle. Donna did ceramics and all kinds of crafts. She loved her family and they have many beautiful memories of family dinners and BBQ's on the patio.

Donna is survived by her loving partner, best friend and soul mate, Dennis Horst; her four loving children Kristi (Dutch) Edson of Gothenburg; Kathy (Mark) Stencel of Mullen; Karen (Mark) Meyer of New Salem, North Dakota; Kim (Marcy) Slack of Gothenburg; one brother Russell (Cleo) Shelley of Laramie, WY and one sister Opal (Floyd) Cummings of Greeley, CO. She is also survived by her extended family Clay (Joni) Horst of Loveland, Colorado; Clint (Heather) Horst of Hickman, NE; Jeff Horst of Sidney, NE; Ben (Jessica) Horst of Ogden, Iowa; and Brandon (Amy) Horst of Chadron, NE. Nine grandchildren Tina Goodenberger of Kearney, NE; Jennifer (Shane) Belgum of North Platte; NE; Torrey (Jill) Smith of Lincoln, NE; Taun (Aengle) Smith of Laramie, WY; Julie Speck of Gothenburg, NE; Shelley (Phil) Bader and Bridget (Travis) Wetch of New Salem, ND; Karissa Slack of Lincoln, NE; and Korbin Slack of Lincoln, NE; and ten great-grandchildren will miss her dearly. She and Denny also shared six grandchildren from Denny's five sons. Donna will be missed by a host of friends.

Donna was preceded in death by her parents, one brother and six sisters. Register Book will be available to sign Wednesday, October 22, 9:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. with the family present from 6-8 at Blase-Strauser Memorial Chapel, Gothenburg, NE.

Memorial services will be held on Thursday, October 23, 2008, 10:00 a.m. at the United Methodist Church, Gothenburg, NE, with Pastor Randy Dilts officiating.

Burial will take place in the Gothenburg Cemetery.

Memorials are suggested to Central Plains Home Health and Hospice or the Gothenburg Senior Center.
