Donna Darlene (Gilliland) Hazen, 81, of Maywood Nebraska, died October 21, 2014 at Good Samaritan Hospital in Kearney Nebraska.
She was born September 26, 1933 in Maywood NE, the eldest daughter of Hazel and Blanche (Doyle) Gilliland. She grew up in the Maywood area and attended Maywood grade school and U.N.S.A in Curtis, graduating in 1951. She received a college teaching degree from Kearney State College.
Donna married Dale Hazen May 3, 1953, and to this union four children were born: Allen, Denny, Joyce and Arlas. The family farmed in the Maywood area, and owned the café in Maywood for several years along with the Yellow Diamond bus lines. In later years Dale and Donna managed motels in Colorado and Wyoming. Donna taught school throughout much of her life. She enjoyed researching family history and is the author of “The Gilliland Family in America 1844-1998”. She also enjoyed camping and spending time with family especially the children, often telling them stories from the past.
She is survived by her husband Dale Hazen of Maywood; sons, Allen and Dennis (Deb) of Curtis and daughter, Joyce Fischer (Duane) of Lenora, KS. Grandchildren Jeremy, Ambjour, Chad, Shawn, Dakota, Craig, Aislinn, Rachael, Cassie, Leahann, Johnathon, Michael, Jasmine, RJ, Kacey, Bryan, Rikki, Crystal, Shine, 17 great grandchildren and one great-great grandchildren; sister Devona Sellers, Wilbur, NE; Brother-in-law Gene (Marlene) Hazen and sister-in-laws Delores Hazen of Globe, AZ and Elizabeth of Ogallala, NE, and many other nieces, nephews, cousins, family and friends.
Donna was preceded in death by her parents Hazel and Blanche Gilliland and son Arlas Shawn Hazen. Sister-in-law Maxine Shirlaw, Brother-in-laws; Stanley Sellers. Lyle and Keith Hazen and Raymond Shirlaw.
Memorial services will be held at Maywood Christian Church, Saturday, October 25, 2014 at 4:00 pm with Pastor Dale Heimer officiating.
