Donald Dean Rubenthaler

March 25, 1928 - June 17, 2011

Donald D. Rubenthaler, 83, of Gothenburg, NE, died June 17, 2011 at Hilltop Estates in Gothenburg, NE.

He was born March 25, 1928 in Brady, NE, son of Ted and Signe (Helberg) Rubenthaler.
Don grew up north of Brady attending Wild Horse Valley from 1st through 8th grade. He attended Brady High School graduating Valedictorian of his class. Following high school he attended Wesleyan University for a year. Don served his country in the Korean War from 1951-1953. He was Private First Class, 34th Engineering Base Photo mapping co. stationed in Tokyo, Japan.

On April 15, 1956, Don married Lois Holscher at the St. John's Lutheran Church in rural Ogallala. They made their home north of Brady where he farmed and ranched, until they moved to Gothenburg in 2001. Don was a member of the Zion Lutheran Church, north of Gothenburg where he served on the Church Council numerous times and was Sunday School Superintendant. He enjoyed his family, reading and playing cards and games.


Don is survived by a daughter, Jill Rubenthaler, two sons: Dean (Marlinda) Rubenthaler, Dirk (Debbie) Rubenthaler all of Gothenburg, Grandchildren: Joey(Kristen) Rubenthaler of Bellevue, NE; Kayla Rubenthaler of Lincoln, Stephanie Rubenthaler of Gothenburg, Step-Grandchildren: Jeremy (Candace) Harms of Gothenburg, Brandon Harms of Gothenburg, Step-Great-Grandchildren: Brittany, William and Regan Harms of Gothenburg; brother Jim & Marilyn Rubenthaler,sister Eileen Nelson, sister-in-law Donna Holscher and numerous nieces and nephews.

Don is preceded in death by his parents, his loving wife Lois in 2008, two brothers-in-law, Adolph Holscher and Calvin Nelson.
