Donald Briggs

Donald Bain Briggs, 80, of Curtis, Nebraska, died November 24, 2017 in North Platte, NE.

Don was born January 8, 1937 in Alliance, NE, son of Bernard and Vera (Cooksey) Briggs.  Don grew up in Alliance and graduated from Alliance High School In 1955. Following High School he served his country in the US Air Force from June 1955 to Feb 1959.  Don then attended Chadron State College and graduated in 1963.  Don married Shirley Rexroth on June 12, 1965 in Lincoln, they lived in Curtis. To this union two children were born - Heidi and Corey.   Don taught English and Biology and was an Annual Advisor at the Nebraska School of Agriculture from 1965-1968.  He then taught Yearbook, Science and Journalism at Medicine Valley from 1969 until 1998.

He was a member of the Curtis United Methodist Men, enjoyed golfing at Arrowhead Meadows, his garden and spending time with his family. Don was a member of the Nebraska State Education Association, Curtis Education Association, and the Masons.

Don is survived by his daughter Heidi (Scott) Lowthorp, Sidney, IA, son Corey (Nancy) Briggs, Columbus, NE; seven grandchildren; brothers-in-law, Duane (Mary Lou) Rexroth, Shenandoah, IA; and Lynn Rexroth, Wayzata, MN; sisters-in-law Phyllis Briggs, Alliance, NE, and Pam Briggs of Harrisonburg, VA;  12 nieces & nephews, along with extended family and friends.

Donald was preceded in death by wife, Shirley A. Briggs, his parents Bernard and Vera Briggs and  brothers David and Robert Briggs.

Services will be held at First United Methodist Church, Monday, November 27, 2017 at 11:30 am with Pastor Tunde Oladimeji officiating.

Interment will take place at a later date.

Memorials may be given to the Medicine Valley Education Foundation.
