Darlene Jean Brittenham, 77, of Jeffery Lake passed away at her home south of Brady, Nebraska, on May 2, 2009. She was born March 14, 1932, to Reuben and Eva (Callaham) Johnson at their farm near Ingham, Nebraska. The family moved to various farms in the Brady-Moorefield area and in Idaho while she was growing up. She graduated from the Nebraska School of Agriculture in Curtis, Nebraska. Darlene worked as a bank teller in Cozad, Nebraska prior to her marriage to Wayne Brittenham on September 16, 1951 in Maxwell, Nebraska. To this union three children were born: Linda, Larry, and Rod. After many years in the United States Air Force, the family settled in Lexington, Nebraska. Darlene worked as a bank teller and bookkeeper while raising her family. After the children were raised, she and Wayne built their home on the shore of Jeffrey Lake where she enjoyed raising flowers, square dancing, genealogy, and was passionate about her quilting.
Darlene is survived by her daughter, Linda Blake of Nampa, Idaho; her son, Larry (Margaret) Brittenham of Superior, Nebraska; and her son, Rod (Debra) Brittenham of Springfield, Virginia; two sisters - Shirley (Eldon) Brittenham of Moorefield, Nebraska, and Lavawn (Charlie) Rowson of Fulton, Missouri; sister-in-law - Maxine Brittenham of North Platte, Nebraska; five grandsons - Michael Blake, Patrick Blake, TJ Blake, Andrew Brittenham, James Brittenham; six granddaughters - Katie Cluff, Hannah Blake, Kristen Brittenham, Bethany Brittenham, Sarah Brittenham, and Rachel Brittenham; two great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Wayne, and a sister Lorene.
Darlene was a member of the VFW Auxiliary, American Legion Auxiliary, Ladies of Brady, and American Lutheran Church.
