Crete Knox
November 18, 1924 — August 10, 2009
Crete Devale Knox, 84, of Curtis, passed away on August 10, 2009 at Tabitha Nursing Home in Crete, NE.
He was born on November 18, 1924 to Roy and Lydia (Halsey) Knox at Somerset, NE. He attended country school and later high school in North Platte.
On March 2, 1942 Crete enlisted in the Navy at the age of 17. On October 18, 1945 he was Honorably Discharged.
On September 17, 1954, he married Betty Florom at the United Methodist Church in Curtis, NE. To this union two children were born: Cindy and Ronald. Crete and Betty lived in Curtis, Nebraska.
He grew up in the North Platte area. Crete and Betty lived in Wellfleet in 1954, they later moved to North Platte and then to Curtis. He was a Volunteer Fireman, a member of the American Legion Post #95, VFW 6930 in Curtis. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, sports, including football, basketball and baseball, going to his kids and grandkids sporting events and bowling. Crete was also a Baseball Coach in Curtis.
Crete was a business man. He was a self employed entrepreneur and handy man. He owned the CK Appliance store and the Curtis Lanes bowling alley in Curtis.
Crete is survived by his loving spouse, Betty, daughter- Cindy (Michael) Stehlik of Crete, NE, granddaughter, Nicole Stehlik and partner Kristi Baxter of Castle Rock, CO, grandson Tim (Ashley) Stehlik and great-grandson Jackson of Crete, NE, grandson, Matt Stehlik of Lincoln, NE ; son - Ronald (Shelly) Knox of Lafayette, CO, and grandson, Aaron Otillar of Lafayette, CO; brother - Butch (Bonnie) Knox of Curtis, NE; sister - Deloris Jenkins of Grant, NE; sister-in-law - Eloise Look of Wellfleet, NE, and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Roy and Lydia Knox and brothers, Herb and Dalton Knox.
