Calvin Bowman

Calvin "Cal" Clinton Bowman, 90, of Gothenburg, Nebraska, died August 31, 2015 at Stone Hearth Estates in Gothenburg, NE.

He was born November 10, 1924 in Gothenburg, NE, son of Lue "Brownie" and Villa (Schweelder) Bowman.

Cal grew up in Gothenburg and lived here his entire life except for his time in the US Army.  Cal served his country in the US Army from June 1943 to February 1946.  He married Katherine LaVonne Jacox on December 9, 1946 at the Gothenburg United Methodist Church.  Cal worked for the US Postal Service as a clerk and rural mail carrier for many years.  He was a member of the Gothenburg Fire Department and the United Methodist Church.  He enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren.  In his free time he liked to go hunting.  He liked playing cards and pool.  He also enjoyed horse racing.

Survivors include two sons, Monty (Linda) Bowman of Gothenburg, NE, Gary (Alma) Bowman of Pineville, MO;  five grandchildren: Kerri, Kaysie, Jason, Le'Ann, and Kristopher, 12 great grandchildren, sister Joan (Bill) Kozicek; brother Rodney (Uretta) Bowman along with numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Cal was preceded in death by wife, LaVonne Bowman, his parents, brothers - James "Buck" and Harold "Pete", sisters Dorothy Hinz, Juanita Kite and infant sister Janet.

Visitation will be held at Blase-Strauser Memorial Chapel, Gothenburg, Nebraska; Wednesday, September 2, 2015, 1:00 pm - 8:00 pm. with the family present from 5:00-7:00 pm.

Funeral services will be held at First United Methodist Church, 1401 Lake Ave, Gothenburg, NE on Thursday, September 3, 2015 at 10:30 am with Pastor Joel Plisek officiating.

Interment will follow in the Gothenburg Cemetery, Gothenburg, Nebraska.
