Bruce Findlay, 80, of Gothenburg died on November 20, 2008 at Gothenburg Memorial Hospital.
Bruce was born on January 6, 1928, at Gothenburg to Neil and Edna (Urie) Findlay. He was very proud of the fact that he raised his children on the same land that his grandparents homesteaded in 1893. He grew up on the family farm and graduated from Gothenburg High School.
Bruce served his country in the Army during 1952-1954. After his discharge he went back to farming and ranching on the family farm.
Bruce married Rose Marie Hudson on August 29, 1965 at Gothenburg. To this union, two children were born: Charles and Lisa.
In 1993, Bruce and Rose were awarded the AK-SAR-BEN Pioneer Award. Bruce enjoyed life on the farm and ranch taking special interest in cattle and horses. He enjoyed rodeos and participated in the hand corn-husking contests. He enjoyed inventing things on the farm, he was especially proud of a horse-drawn rake that he made to turn alfalfa. He was a devoted father and grandfather who would light up when he saw his kids. He loved nothing more than playing a game of cards.
Bruce was preceded in death by his parents, a sister Alice and 2 sister-in-laws.
Bruce is survived by his loving wife Rose; son Charles (Janine) Findlay of Lincoln; daughter Lisa Findlay of Gothenburg; and 3 grandchildren: Taylor, Logan, and Addison; 2 sister-in-laws Mary Millsap and Virginia Hudson both of Gothenburg, and numerous family and friends, including a special friend Clyde Kotschwar of Farnam, NE.
