Betty L. Slack passed away at her home north of Brady, NE on July 1, 2019 after a short battle with lymphoma cancer. She was born on April 2, 1936 in Los Angeles, CA to Kenneth and Bethel Jenkins.
After years of being a military wife, Betty adopted and loved the farming life in Wild Horse Valley when she married her husband Bill Slack on December 4, 1982 at the American Lutheran Church in Gothenburg, NE. She enjoyed being with family and friends, reading, sewing and crocheting. She also enjoyed bowling for many years and working at the blue rock shoots. Fridays were her town days, always looking forward to her salon time with her granddaughter Kelly Lacy and coffee time with sister-in-law, Carol Slack.
Betty was a member of the Svea Dal Ladies Aid and the Ladies Extension Club.
She was preceded in death by her father Kenneth Jenkins, mother and step-father Bethel and Gerald Shadduck, sons Ray and Charles Eldridge, grandson Gerald Puryear, Jr., and father-in-law and mother-in-law, William and Geraldine Slack.
Betty leaves to mourn her husband of 36 years, Bill Slack of Brady, NE; sons Gary (Jami) Roeder of North Platte, NE; Joseph (Maria) Puryear, Jr. of Hanahan, SC; Gerald (Rhonda) Puryear, Sr. of Cozad, NE, grandchildren, great grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, nieces and nephews; brother, Charles (Marilyn) Jenkins of Elizabethtown, KY; sisters-in-law Carol Slack of Gothenburg, NE; Evonne (Garry) Hicken of Gothenburg, NE and Bev (Mike) Troxel of Sutherland, NE.
Visitation will be held at Blase-Strauser Memorial Chapel, Gothenburg, Nebraska; Sunday, July 7, 2019, 2:00 pm - 4:00 pm.
Funeral services will be held at American Lutheran Church, 1512 Ave G, Gothenburg, NE, Monday July 8, 2019 at 10:30 am with Pastor Carol Mapa officiating.
Interment will follow in the Gothenburg Cemetery.
