Betty Anne Marchand, 72, of Gothenburg, passed away on September 9, 2007 at Gothenburg.
Betty was born on July 13, 1935 to James Newton and Nellie Nutt McKim at Gothenburg. She graduated from Gothenburg High School in 1953.
Betty was a hard worker. She started as a nurse's aide in the Gothenburg Hospital; she then took classes at the Cozad Nursing Home to dispense medications. Betty was a CSM in nursing for 52 years. Betty & Doug (her first husband) also worked at a ranch in the sand hills with Betty doing the cooking for the ranch hands.
Betty married Doug High in 1960. They later divorced. She then married Lupe Gonzalez on October 12, 1974. Lupe passed away in April 1994. She then married Henry "Frenchie" Marchand in August 1995. He passed away in April 1997.
Betty's dogs & cats were her family. There were many strays taken into her home because of her love of animals and her big heart.
Betty loved to go camping and fishing with her family at the canals in Elwood, Gothenburg, and Brady. Betty loved to cook. She would make Christmas & Thanksgiving Dinners for her sisters & brothers. Her nephews especially liked her pies and cinnamon rolls.
Another love in Betty's life was to crochet. She made many doilies, tablecloths, and afghans for her family and friends.
Betty & Lupe took care of her aging parents with Betty doing the cooking and cleaning for them. She would sit with them many a night in the hospital during their illnesses.
Betty was preceded in death by her parents, and her husbands.
Betty is survived by 2 sisters: Alice (Don) Leggott of Elwood; Jeannine (Bill) Miller of Lexington; 2 brothers: Gordan Lee McKim of Beatrice, and David (Mary) Bradley McKim of Maxwell. She leaves behind many nieces & nephews, and friends.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, September 11, 2007, at 10:30 a.m. at the First Presbyterian Church in Gothenburg with Pastor Matt Coplen officiating.
Visitation will be held Tuesday, September 11, 2007, 1:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Blase-Strauser Memorial Chapel, Gothenburg, Nebraska
Memorials may be given to the First Presbyterian Church in Gothenburg.
