Biography

Bertha Holm, 93, of Gothenburg, formerly of Ansley, passed away on October 16, 2009 at Long-Term Care in Gothenburg, NE.
Bertha was born on April 10, 1916 to Thomas and Bertha (Curtis) Dobesh at Ansley, NE. She grew up on a farm south of Ansley. Bertha attended country school south of Ansley and attended high school in Ansley later graduating from Holy Name in Omaha, NE. Following graduation she entered the Sisters of St. Mary Convent in St. Louis, MO. She served the Sisters of St. Mary as Sister Mary Theaphaine in St. Louis, MO; Blue Hill, IL; and Dillon, SC; the 1930's and 40's. Bertha worked as a hospital Nun and a medical record librarian. After leaving the convent she returned home to help her family. In 1951 she married Hardy Holm at Mason City, NE. To this union two sons were born: Hardy, Jr. and Tom.
Bertha returned to nursing, working at the Rest Haven Manor in Broken Bow. She later got recertified as a registered record administrator and worked at the Sargent Community Hospital until she retired.
She was a member of the Sacred Heart Altar Society of Ansley. Bertha always enjoyed dancing.
Bertha is survived by her two sons - Hardy Edward Holm Jr. of Lincoln, NE; Tom Holm of Gothenburg, NE; grandson - Bryan (Cheryl) Holm of Bellevue, NE; granddaughters - Tiffany Holm of Lincoln, NE, Stephanie (Logan) Ricley of Gothenburg, NE; great-grandchildren - Hayden Rachael Ricley and Trystan Alexander Holm.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Hardy Edward Holm, her parents, two sisters, Alice Thorn and Maybelle Alexander and two brothers Ford Dobesh and Thomas Jewell.
