Bertha Daharsh

Bertha L. Daharsh, 94, of Gothenburg, Nebraska, died June 29, 2021 at Stone Hearth Estates, Gothenburg, NE.

She was born February 1, 1927 in North Platte, NE, daughter of George and Gladys (Ridenour) Kariger.

Bertha attended school in Sutherland. Following high school, she went on to attain her Bachelors Degree in teaching. She was a teacher at Gothenburg Public Schools for 33 years and then was a substitute teacher for six years following her retirement.

She married Leonard Hood in 1943, and they later divorced, on August 16, 1957 she married Damon Daharsh in Gothenburg, NE.

In her free time, Bertha enjoyed painting china, quilting, and spending time in her yard tending to her flowers and yard. Bertha loved animals, but especially cats.

Survivors include son, Roger (Paula) Hood of Gothenburg, NE; grandchildren, Kerri (Steve) Kraft of Broomfield, CO, Greg (Michelle) Hood of Lincoln, NE, Dirk (Melissa) Hood of Roca, NE, and Beth (Don) Burton of Omaha, NE; James Garrelts, Mark (Rhonda) Garrelts, and Mindy (Richard) Keller; 18 great-grandchildren and 7 great-great grandchildren;  nieces and nephews and many friends.

Bertha was preceded in death by father, George W. Kariger, mother, Gladys E. Kariger, husband, Damon Daharsh, two daughters, Virginia (Gin) Garrelts, and Kathleen  Hood, son, Alan Dale Hood, sisters, Theo Mae Whitmire and Kathryn Smith, brothers, George Kariger and Harvey Kariger, son-in-law James Garrelts.

Visitation will be held Wednesday, July 7, 2021, 1:00 PM - 7:00 PM at Blase-Strauser Memorial Chapel, Gothenburg, Nebraska, with family present from 5:00 PM - 7:00 PM.

Services will be held Thursday, July 8th, 2021, 10:30 AM at First Presbyterian Church, Gothenburg, NE, with  Pastor David Boyd officiating.

Interment will follow in the Gothenburg Cemetery, Gothenburg, Nebraska.
