Barry Alan Barrett, 61, of Eustis, Nebraska, died November 24, 2024 in Grand Island, Nebraska.
He was born October 29, 1963 in Cozad, NE, son of Bruce and Loretta (Adams) Barrett.
Barry attended grade school in Eustis, Nebraska and went his Freshman and Sophomore years in Belgrade, MT and he graduated from Gothenburg High School. After graduation he moved back to Belgrade, MT and he and his brother Bryan did tile work. He came back to Nebraska for awhile and then moved to Santa Cruz, CA and graduated from the University of California, Santa Cruz, in biology.
Barry pursued a career in medicine. He moved to Philadelphia and got his PHD. He did his internship there and got married. His daughter Hannah was born there. The family moved to Andalusia, Alabama and he had a private practice in Opp, Alabama. His daughter Halie was born there. Barry loved the ocean so the family moved to Pensacola, Florida. Barry then was the Dr. at the Huntsville, Alabama prison. He liked working with the prisoners because he said they were people just like us who made the wrong choices. He then worked in the ER in the hospital, and later was the prison Dr. in Montgomery, Alabama. Barry loved his daughters and enjoyed spending time with them. He liked to travel, working with his patients and giving them the best care they deserved. He enjoyed fishing, talking politics, had a passion for cooking, gardening, raising all kinds of animals.
Survivors include, his daughters Hannah and Halie Barrett, Savannah, GA, his mother, Loretta A. Barrett of Eustis, NE; sister, Barb (Rod) Wolf of Ogallala, NE; brother, Bryan Barrett of Eugene, OR.
Barry was preceded in death by father, Bruce A. Barrett, grandparents, Truman and Ruth E. Barrett, Ralph E. and Lola R. Adams.
Visitation will be held at Blase-Strauser Memorial Chapel, Gothenburg, Nebraska; Thursday, December 5, 2024, 1:00 pm - 7:00 pm. with the family present from 4:00-6:00 pm.
Services will be held at Eustis Methodist Church, December 6, 2024 at 10:30 am with Pastor Elmo Hermann officiating.
