Barbara Wheeler

Barbara  Wheeler, 89, of Gothenburg, Nebraska, died January 6, 2021 at Hilltop Estates in Gothenburg, NE.

Barbara L. Clark Wheeler one of six children born to David J. and Nellie Wallace Clark , was born November 15, 1931 in Decatur, Nebraska.  Her father was an educator and the family moved around eastern Nebraska communities until the family settled more permanently in Vesta.  Barbara graduated as Salutatorian from Vesta High School and from there moved to Lincoln to find employment in the Russell Stover factory as a candy sorter.  In 1953, upon his return from the service, she married Gothenburg native Earl E. Wheeler in Lincoln and they returned to farm south of Gothenburg.  To this union two children were born; Cinthia Sue and David Todd.  Barbara worked tirelessly on the farm doing what was necessary to help with day-to-day operations.  She ran a mean hay sweep, patched dry cracking dams for gravity watering, canned every fall, and in later years continued to cut wood for heating after the passing of Earl.


Barbara is preceded in death by her husband Earl, her parents, a brother Allen Clark, sister-in-laws Marjorie Clark and Leola Clark, and brother-in-law John L. Evans.


She leaves to morn her passing, her children Cinthia and David.  Grandchildren Brandon Bullock (Thelma), Abby Cameron (Christi), Sarah DeNunzio (Mark), Andy Wheeler, Holly Wheeler, Angela (Corey) Morris, Bryan (Andrea) Poltack, and Sarah (Matt) Ihrig.  Her sisters Shirley Evans, Joyce Smidt (Bob), Marion Farber, and brother Richard Clark.  Great grandchildren Preston and Tucker Bullock, Patrick Cameron, Vinnie, Nick and Kimsie DeNunzio, Bergan (Suzanna) and Kayle Morris, Aspen and Keelan Poltack, and Jonathan Ihrig.


Private Funeral Services will be held at Fort McPherson National Cemetery.

Burial will follow in the Fort McPherson National Cemetery, Maxwell, Nebraska.

Memorials may be directed to the Gothenburg Senior Center.
