Barbara Alice Ehlers, 81, of Gothenburg, Nebraska, died June 1, 2019 at Hilltop Estates in Gothenburg, NE.
Barbara was born to Exie B. and Alice M. (Hutchens) Woodward on November 14, 1937 . She was baptized into the Arnold Baptist Church. She attended Upper Powell Canyon grade school and Arnold High School. She met Lawrence G Ehlers and later married him on November 20, 1955 at Kenasaw, NE to this union three children were born - Darwin, Donna and Daniel.
Barb did a lot of sewing for her family. She loved gardening and canning the vegetables. She and Lawrence would take the family to Colorado, Idaho, Washington and Wyoming, returning home they would bring back peaches, bing cherries and apricots for her friends and family to enjoy. She would can and share the fruit with her neighbors and friends.
Barb was a member of the American Lutheran Church and taught Sunday School when her children were growing up. She cleaned houses for people and various other places. She loved to make quilts, crochet afagans, and create other projects and give them to her friends and family. She enjoyed quilting with her friends at the church quilting group. She loved to bake cookies, cinnamon rolls and all kinds of goodies to give away.
Barb was a long time member of the P.V.C. club and served as President for a number of years. She was a member of the Red Hat Ladies. She was very active in the Senior Center - rolling pretzels, Meals-On-Wheels, and many other activities.
Survivors include her daughter, Donna Ronning of Gothenburg; two sons, Darwin (Denise) Ehlers of North Platte, NE, Daniel Ehlers of Gothenburg; and her sister Elaine (H. Lee) Jones of Lincoln; grandchildren and great great grandchildren Amber (Dan) Eller and son Rylan all of North Platte; Lindsey (Levi) Gibbs and children Gunner, Bella, Athena all of North Platte; Chelsey Witthum and Ryker of North Platte, Jacob Ehlers of Lincoln along with many friends and extended family members.
Barbara was preceded in death by husband, Lawrence Ehlers, parents Exie and Alice Woodward, three brothers, Stanley, Gerald, and Jerry Woodward.
Visitation will be held at Blase-Strauser Memorial Chapel, Gothenburg, Nebraska; Tuesday, June 4, 2019, 1:00 pm - 7:00 pm with the family present from 4:00 pm - 6:00 pm.
Funeral Services will be held at American Lutheran Church,Wednesday, June 5, 2019 at 10:00 am with Pastor Jon Mapa officiating.
Interment will follow at Fort McPherson National Cemetery.
Memorials may be given to the Senior Center or the American Lutheran Church.
