Arthur "Art" Houchin, 91, of Gothenburg, Nebraska, died July 15, 2021 in Gothenburg, NE.
He was born May 9, 1930 in Lincoln, NE, son of James L. Houchin and Vera V. Houchin. On October 12, 1953, he married Josephine Emily (Kwiatkowski) Houchin to this union four children were born: William, Rita, Michael, and Cynthia.
He spent his early years hay hauling as a family business and then a trash hauling business for a few years. He worked for CBI National Alfalfa in Gothenburg as well as the M&R Milling Co. and Parrot Milling in Gothenburg. He later became the manager of Island Dehydration in Cozad, NE until he retired.
Survivors include wife, Josephine Houchin of Gothenburg; four children William Joseph (Pam) Houchin of Riverdale, Rita Ann (Rick) Fiese of Gothenburg, Michael Allen Houchin of Gothenburg, and Cynthia Marie (Roy) Crites of Arcadia; 36 grandchildren, 34 great grandchildren and one great great grandchild; sister, Charlene (Steve) Holbein of Lexington, along with numerous nieces, nephews, and close family and friends.
Arthur was preceded in death by grandsons, James Michael Houchin, Christopher Lee Metzger, and Shawn Lynn Crites; daughter-in-law, Pamela Mary Houchin; father, James L Houchin; mother, Vera V. Houchin; brother, Raymond Houchin; brother, Daniel Houchin; sister, Vera Kwiatkowski; sister, Joan Baldwin; and sister, Artith Barnes.
Visitation will be held at Blase-Strauser Memorial Chapel, Gothenburg, Nebraska; Monday, July 19, 2021, 1:00 pm - 7:00 pm with the family present from 4:00-6:00 pm.
Services will be held at Blase-Strauser Memorial Chapel, July 20, 2021 at 10:30 am with Pastor Larry Viter officiating.
Interment will follow in the Gothenburg Cemetery, Gothenburg, Nebraska.
