Arlen Stringfellow

Arlen LaVoie Stringfellow 83, of El Cajon, CA died August 21, 2016 at the home of his daughter Charlotte Carlson of Gothenburg, NE.

Arlen was born May 14, 1933 in Oklahoma City, OK.  Arlen grew up in San Diego, CA, where he attended Sherman Elementary, Memorial Jr. High and San Diego High School.  He played guard on the Varsity Football Team and in 1951 the team won the CIF Championship.  He attended Cuyamaca College where he obtained his AS degree in Electronics.

In 1952 Arlen married Doris Earline Rubin in San Diego, CA; to this union three children were born, Kathrine, Arlen Eugene and Charlotte LaVern.

Arlen began serving in the California National Guard in 1950 and continued full time thru 1972.  He was a Master Sergeant/Battalion Maintenance Sergeant. He also worked for the US Border Patrol as Electronic Technician Supervisor.  He retired from the Border Patrol in 1991.

Arlen became an Elks Lodge Member in 1955. He most recently served as Greeter and Treasurer of Elks Lodge #1812.  He was also a trustee at Calvary Baptist Church during the 1970's.

In 1986 Arlen married Marilyn Theresa Azevedo.  They enjoyed their retirement years doing entrepreneurial jobs, traveling and being with friends and family.

He is survived by his children: Kathrine (Tom) Zavodnik of Decatur, TX, Arlen (Pam) Stringfellow of Alpine, CA, Charlotte (Lee) Carlson of Gothenburg, NE.  Grandchildren: Tom (Courtney) Zavodnik, Anne (Stephen) Chaney, Joey Zavodnik, Michelle (Brian) Gibbs, Rachel (Josh) Weeden, Jessica (Chris) Bailey, Justin (Andrea) Carlson, Jonathan (Chelsea) Carlson, James (Taylan) Carlson, and 19 great-grandchildren.

Arlen was preceded in death by his loving wife, Marilyn in 2007.  His mother Hazel Kathrine (Rushe) and step-father Hassel Eugene Robinson.

Memorials may be given to the Nebraska Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, 11917 Pierce Plaza, Omaha, NE 68144 in honor of his great granddaughter Adalyn Claire Carlson who was born with Cystic Fibrosis.

Graveside services will be held 2:00pm, Friday, August 26, 2016 at the El Cajon Cemetery in El Cajon, CA with Dr. Don Sauter officiating.

Memorial services will be held at Callaway Community Church, 705 E Stebbins St, Callaway, NE, Sunday, September 4, 2016 at 2:00 pm with Pastor Dean Haidle officiating.
