Aleda Bell Peterson, 75, of Gothenburg, Nebraska, died May 24, 2015 following a 27 year battle with cancer surrounded by her loving family at her home north of Gothenburg, NE.
She was born May 27, 1939 at Cozad, NE daughter of John and Ima (Troxel) Abbott.
Aleda grew up on the family farm north east of Cozad and graduated from Cozad High School. She married Dean Peterson on August 7, 1960 at Cozad, NE and they made their home on the farm north of Gothenburg. Aleda and Dean had five children - Kay, Karen, Kim, Kelly and Mark.
Aleda was a member of the Etna Exchange Club, Evangelical Free Church and WMS. She worked as a secretary at Culligan in Cozad for a few years. She enjoyed spending time with her family, cooking and doing crafts. She spent time helping others, reading and watching Husker football.
Surviving are husband, Dean Peterson of Gothenburg, NE, son, Mark (Susan) Peterson of Gothenburg, NE; two daughters, Kay (Dan) Catlin of Kearney, NE, Karen (Dave) Bardwick of Missoula, MT; six grandkids - Abby, Chad and Derrick Bardwick of Missoula, MT; Seth Catlin of Kearney, NE; Tyler and Kayla Peterson of Gothenburg, NE; sister, Dorthy Oldfather of Lexington, NE; two brothers, Donald (Sharon) Abbott of Gothenburg, NE, Ivan (Linda) Abbott of Harrington, NE; sister-in-law, Dawn Abbott of Lexington, NE; brother-in-law Jerry Peterson of Gothenburg, NE; sister-in-law Deanna (Terry) Cox of Arlington, TX; along with many nieces, nephews and extended family and friends.
Aleda was preceded in death by her parents, John and Ima Abbott; two sons, Kim and Kelly Peterson; brother Kenneth Abbott; nephews David, Jamie and Craig Abbott; brother-in-law Tom Oldfather; sister-in-law Luetta Peterson; and parents-in-law Raymond and Clara Peterson.
Visitation will be held at Evangelical Free Church, 1721 Lake Ave, Gothenburg, NE; Wednesday, May 27, 2015, 1:00 pm - 8:00 pm. with the family present from 5-7.
Funeral Services will be held at Evangelical Free Church, 1721 Lake Ave, Gothenburg, NE on Thursday, May 28, 2015 at 2:00 pm with Pastor Robert Litzenberger officiating.
Private family burial will take place in the New Hope Cemetery.
